2023-2024 Reading Classes Learn About Text Painting

On October 11, Ms. Bramscher's mother paid a visit to her classroom. Cindy Bramscher has published three books: one young adult novel and two books about integrating music and art into classroom instruction for all ages.

The lesson Cindy presented to the students at Northwest was called "Text Painting." Students had previously learned about parts of speech, and as they read the horror novel "Wait Til Helen Comes," they chose their favorite nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

Cindy did an art lesson in which students illustrated their vocabulary words to look like their definitions. Then, students combined the words to form descriptive sentences. The students really enjoyed learning how to work with a new art medium, and by the end of class, some students were even calling her "mom." It was a perfect spooky activity for the day before Fall Break!
