Northwest Middle School Hosts College, Career, and Community Fair

During Family Conferences in October, the Northwest Middle School Counseling Department organized and hosted the school’s annual College, Career, and Community Fair (C3).  Attendees explored high school and post-high school options, careers, and various community resources.  The event gives students exposure to various careers and encourages networking.  Many of the businesses had volunteers present who had attended Northwest or West High School in their youth and currently live in the neighborhood. Many of the vendors volunteer because they sincerely care about this community and the event provides outreach and recruitment opportunities. Many of the volunteers shared they enjoy seeing and interacting with the students. Students expressed keen interest in all of West High School’s booths, but their favorite interactive booth was the FBI! As part of the fun, students were given BINGO cards on which they collected vendor signatures.  At the end of the night, the BINGO cards were entered into a raffle for college goodie bags. Northwest Middle School Latinos in Action students and AVID students acted as ushers and offered translation. Approximately seventy people attended the event.

Some of the businesses and organizations present were:

There were new vendors this year such as Parents Empowered, Volunteers of America-VOICES and All-Stars and Life Skills Training, and Latinos in Action.

Educational organizations and schools were also present.

West High School was well-represented introducing Northwest Middle School students to many of West’s programs.  Students met administrators and counselors.  The NJROTC, the German Department, AVID, the International Baccalaureate Coordinator, and football team shared information at their booths with students.
